The systematic transition of conventional automobiles to their electrified counterparts is an imperative step toward successful decarbonization. Crucial advances in battery storage systems (BSS) and related technologies will enable this proceed smoothly. This requires equivalent developments several interconnected areas, such as complete cycles management (BMS). In context, article critically examines state-of-the-art from the perspective automakers, provides insightful discussions, poses open questions with possible answers. generations BSS (traditional, current, futuristic) are first reviewed analyzed via two distinct qualitative factors (DQFs): key design markers performance indicators. Based on introduced DQFs, major development trends probable evolutions forecasted. Thereafter, recent modeling state estimation methods comprehensively relation high-performance BMS. Accordingly, promising identified futuristic solutions, leading accurate timely decision for reliable safer user experience. concluded by presenting a techno-economic assessment what expect, well highlighting future challenges opportunities industry, academia, policy makers.
